The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a European non-profit science and technology institution based in Cyprus and led by an acclaimed Board of Trustees. The research aims of the CyI are represented by three research centres.
The Computation-based Science and Technology Research Center (CaSToRC), the Science and Technology in Archaeology and Culture Research Center (STARC), and the Energy Environment Water Research Center (EEWRC). Considerable cross-centre interaction is a characteristic of the Institute’s culture.
The Computation-based Science and Technology Research Center (CaSToRC) of CyI invites applications for Computational Scientist(s) with expertise in computation-based science and technology.
The position is within the EU H2020 NI40S-Europe project and the successful candidate is expected to participate in the management of the project as well as in the development of strategies for simulation and data management/repositories and to enable research in diverse scientific areas.
The position will be in the rank of post-doctoral fellow for a duration of 3 years, renewable for an additional year depending on project and Institute needs.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate(s) will work at CaSToRC with a main focus on developing strategies for the mining and management of large scientific data and/or for developing scalable simulation codes for scientific applications that require high performance computing. S/he will be primarily engaged in the following activities:
- Project management activities;
- Coordination with other participating partner sites, and members of the user communities;
- Participation in research activities at CaSToRC;
- Development and implementation of tools for scientific data analysis;
- Identification of computational/data needs of scientific user communities and their translation into technical solutions;
Qualifications
- A PhD Degree (or PhD expected by September 2019) in Physical sciences, Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or any related field. etc.
- Strong Academic track record (publications, presentations at international conferences)
- Data analytics and/or expertise in large simulation, scalable algorithms and codes;
- Experience in programming with C, C++;
- An understanding of high-performance computing, scalable programming and data repository architectures;
- Analytical problem-solving ability;
- Experience in writing technical papers, reports, and journal publications.
- Experience in the development of data-intensive scientific applications;
- Experience in parallel programming;
- Knowledge in data management
- Knowledge in novel computer architectures will be considered an advantage
- Experience in writing research proposals for competitive funds.
- Excellent knowledge of the English language both written and verbal.
- High level of communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to adapt to a multicultural/multidisciplinary environment.
