The Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR) invites application for the Postdoctoral Scholar in the area of Ophthalmology. NIBR collaborates across scientific and organizational boundaries, with a focus on powerful new technologies that have the potential to help produce therapeutic breakthroughs for patients.
Postdoctoral Scholar
The Ophthalmology research team is seeking a talented Cellular and Molecular Biology Post-doctoral fellow to investigate molecular underpinnings of retinal degeneration.
The institution applying a number of molecular and live-cell imaging techniques to understand how particular cellular pathways within specific retinal cell types intersect with the immune response to elucidate contribution to complex, multifactorial disease.
Experience
The successful candidate will have a strong background in pathways biology, with experience developing cell- or animal-based models of disease. Ideally, he/she will have experience combining image-based assays with standard molecular techniques to address complex biologic questions in a holistic manner.
Additionally, the applicant will have an inquisitive mindset, a proactive attitude and the desire to work in a multi-disciplinary team.
The successful candidate will join a vibrant scientific community and collaborate with other postdoctoral fellows mentored by a range of scientists across disciplines and platforms, including chemistry, structural biology, molecular biology, functional genomics, neurophysiology and translational medicine.
Postdoctoral scholar at NIBR has a unique opportunity to conduct innovative, interdisciplinary research and are expected to publish their results in leading journals. The postdoctoral term is up to 4 years.
Qualifications:
- PhD in immunology, cell/molecular biology, human genetics, or developmental biology (PhD students in the last year of their thesis work are eligible to apply)
- Proficiency in various imaging modalities (e.g., multiphoton, light-sheet, super-resolution, etc.)
- Proficiency using image analysis software (e.g., ARIVIS) and programming scripts (e.g., MatLab, Python, etc.)
- Experience with the development and characterization of animal models preferred
- Experience with gene modification techniques preferred
- Strong publication record
- Excellent analytical, communication and organizational skills
- Candidate must be able to work independently as well as with interdisciplinary teams
- High learning agility, developed scientific curiosity, and a desire to stay up to date with the latest microscopy/imaging technologies
