A postdoctoral researcher position is available for 3 years with a possible two-year extension on a multi-disciplinary BBSRC-funded sLOLA grant entitled, ‘How do RNA-binding proteins control splice site selection?’. RNA/molecular biology/single-molecule microscopy/molecular regulation
One of the biggest challenges in molecular biology is presented by the selection of sites for RNA splicing.
We cannot overstate its importance or apparent complexity. We have recently developed a multi-disciplinary approach based on single-molecule methods and chemical biology that will enable us to meet this challenge.
This £4m grant brings together experts in RNA splicing, single-molecule spectroscopy, chemical biology, structural biology and nano-patterning of surfaces and will support 7 postdoctoral researchers (4 in Leicester, 2 in Strathclyde and 1 in Glasgow) who will use and develop methods involving single-molecule colocalization, FRET and scattering, chemical synthesis, NMR, molecular biology and novel surface modifications.
Responsibilities
The appointee’s research will involve studies on the processes controlling clinically-relevant switches in splicing using RNA biochemistry, single-molecule microscopy, cloning and expression in mammalian cells, analysis of expression, cross-linking, proximity labelling and other methods.
In addition, the post-holders will contribute to the development of the laboratories and co-supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Candidates will have a high-quality first degree and PhD in a relevant subject and will be able to demonstrate a high level of activity and engagement in their previous research and relevant research expertise.
