The Jenner Institute-Oxford, United Kingdom, invites experienced Postdoc in Immunologist – Coronavirus ELISA Specialist to play a key role in the Emerging Pathogens Vaccine Group’s programme of work on coronavirus investigation and vaccine development.
The primary focus will be to conduct detailed systems serology of pre-existing immunity to human coronaviruses in Children and Adults in UK and international samples.
The Jenner Institute – Postdoc in Immunologist
The Jenner Institute has produced vaccines against malaria, HIV, tuberculosis and influenza, all of which are in clinical development. In recent years there has been a strong interest in the development of vaccines against emerging and outbreak pathogens.
It has received funding to develop a replication-deficient simian adenoviral vectored vaccine against SARS-CoV-2. This investigation of pre-existing humoral immunity via natural exposure to HCoV will directly inform the study of COVID-19 related immunopathology and pathophysiology, and
vaccine development.
Responsibilities
- Develop assays for the assessment of coronavirus antibodies and when relevant other emerging pathogens
- Standardise and possibly validate assays for use in characterisation of coronavirus immunity
- Perform ELISA assays
- Develop, progress and establish methodologies that may be used for quantification of
- antibody responses toward coronaviruses and when relevant other emerging pathogens
- Participate in research programmes of preclinical vaccine development
- Assist with laboratory supervision and training of new students or junior research assistants in the group
- Collaborate with internal and external partners in immunology and vaccine development
- Analyse data relating to the work undertaken
- Perform any other comparable duties as may be required to ensure the efficient running of the laboratory
- Be responsible with others for the biological safety of the laboratory
Requirements
PhD in a relevant biological sciences subject and have practical experience with ELISA development. Delineation of detailed immunological profiling of humoral immune responses is desirable. Experience of standardizing assays will be beneficial.
