The Biotechnology Ignition Grant (BIG) is the flagship scheme of BIRAC which recognizes and invests in innovative ideas in the biotech sector. The ideas should have clear potential to translate into commercial products/technologies. BIG supports individual entrepreneurs/ start-ups from ideation to Proof of Concept (PoC).

Biotechnology Ignition Grant – Key Features
Special Call for BIG-NER would support innovative ideas ‘from’ and ‘for implementation/deployment in’ North East Region of India (Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura). The proposals should highlight the application of the potential outcome in North Eastern Regions.
Grant-in-aid support of up to INR 50 lakhs would be provided to startups and entrepreneurs for a period of 24 months.
BioNEST-KIIT TBI, Bhubaneswar is the BIRAC’s BIG Partner for the implementation of the special call for NER.
Who can Apply?
In addition to the standard eligibility clause as mentioned in the BIG scheme document, the applicant for this call must be from NER and/or must substantiate the local presence through the intent of technology development/implementation in NER.
How to Apply?
The BIG scheme allows only online submission of proposals. For proposal submission, please register on the BIRAC website under “Special call of BIG”. User registration is open round the clock and closes by 5:30 PM on 31st October 2022.
