The Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, invites applications for the prestigious “DBT-Research Associateship” (DBT-RA) for 2024-25. This program offers an exciting opportunity for Indian researchers to pursue advanced research in the frontier areas of Biotechnology and Life Sciences.

The objective of the DBT-Research Associateship

The DBT-Research Associateship aims to train and nurture young researchers and scientists. The program seeks to generate a critical mass of skilled professionals in modern areas of biology and biotechnology, thereby building a robust postdoctoral base essential for the growth of the biotechnology sector in India.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Academic Qualification: Applicants should hold a Ph.D. degree in Science or Engineering, or an M.D./M.S. degree in any area of medicine focusing on Biotechnology and Life Sciences. Candidates who have submitted their Ph.D./M.D./M.S. thesis are also eligible, though they will receive a lower fellowship amount until they obtain their degree.
  • Age Limit: The upper age limit is 40 years for male candidates and 45 years for female candidates as of the last date of application.
  • Employment: Employed applicants are eligible but must relinquish their current employment upon acceptance of the fellowship.

Tenure of the Fellowship

The Associateship is a full-time, temporary assignment lasting for two years, with annual renewals based on research progress. In exceptional cases, the fellowship may be extended up to four years.

  • Closing Date of Application Submission: August 7, 2024

General Guidelines

  • The fellowship can be availed only once in a candidate’s career.
  • It is tenable only in recognized academic institutions, national laboratories, and other R&D institutions in India.
  • Fellows cannot work with their Ph.D. guides or co-guides, nor at the institution where they earned their Ph.D./M.D./M.S. degree.
  • Each mentor can guide a maximum of two DBT-RA fellows at a time and must hold a regular academic or research position in a recognized Indian institution.
  • Superannuated faculty can mentor if they demonstrate access to necessary resources and laboratories.

How to Apply

Applications must be submitted online via the DBT-RA Online Portal here or here. The application process includes filling out personal information, academic qualifications, research contributions, referee details, proposed research work, and details of the proposed mentor and host institution. Required documents include self-attested copies of degree certificates, a date of birth certificate, and a consent letter from the mentor.

Applicants must ensure that their referees upload recommendation letters on the portal by August 7, 2024. Late submissions will not be accepted.
