IEEE introduced a dataset repository called IEEE DataPort which hosts all types of datasets, and all data owners are encouraged to upload their datasets. IEEE Dataport allows various formats of free Datasets accepted in sizes up to 2TB.
What is IEEE Dataport?
IEEE DataPort is a valuable and easily accessible data platform that enables users to store, search, access, and manage data. The data platform is designed to accept all formats and sizes of datasets (up to 2TB), and it provides both downloading capabilities and access to datasets in the Cloud. IEEE DataPort is a universally accessible web-based portal that serves four primary purposes:
- Enable individuals and institutions to indefinitely store and make datasets easily accessible to a broad set of researchers, engineers, and industry;
- Enable researchers, engineers, and industry to gain access to datasets that can be analyzed to advance technology;
- Facilitate data analysis by enabling access to data in the AWS Cloud and by enabling the downloading of datasets
- Supports reproducible research.
IEEE DataPort is an online data platform created and supported by IEEE.
How to Access and Download free IEEE Dataset?
Follow the steps to access IEEE Dataport.
- Go to website
Enter ieee-dataport.org in the search bar.
- Login to IEEE dataport
Login or signup into IEEE dataport accounts for free.
- Subscribe to IEEE dataport
Subscribe to IEEE DataPort to access all datasets( Currently, IEEE dataport in an experimental phase so you can use it for no cost )
- Go to the DATASETS tab.
- Search for a datasets
Search for a dataset or browse dataset categories shown on the lower left-hand side of the page. Click on the desired dataset to view the Title, Abstract, and Instructions.
- Download dataset
Subscribed IEEE DataPort users can access the dataset files either via the AWS S3 URI tab or the Download tab on the upper right-hand side of the page.
- Submit an analysis
After analysis, you can submit using SUBMIT AN ANALYSIS button
- Upload Dataset
You can also upload your datasets using Submit a Dataset link. It has 3 options ( Standard Dataset, Open Access Dataset , and Data Competition ) which allow 2 TB of data and related files as well as metadata, cloud storage integration, an automatically generated DOI, analysis submissions, and comments. Please choose the option below that best fits your needs.
Summary: Simple step-by-step procedure to download free datasets for students
1. Go to the IEEE Dataset DataPort website:
You can find it at https://ieee-dataport.org/.
2. Create a free account (or log in if you already have one):
Click on the “Sign Up” button in the upper right corner of the homepage. You can create a free account using your email address.
3. Explore the Datasets tab:
Once logged in, navigate to the “DATASETS” tab at the top of the page.
4. Find free datasets:
There are two main ways to find free datasets:
- Search bar: Enter relevant keywords related to the type of dataset you’re looking for and hit enter.
- Browse by category: Use the categories listed on the left side of the page to narrow down your search.
5. Identify free datasets:
Not all datasets on IEEE DataPort are free. Look for datasets with “Open Access” listed under the “Access” section. These datasets are freely available to all users with an account.
6. Downloading free datasets:
When you’ve found a free dataset, click on it to view details. If it’s truly open access, you’ll see options to download the data directly or access it through the cloud (AWS S3 URI).
Important notes:
- While creating an account is free, some datasets might require a paid subscription for access. Make sure the dataset you choose is listed as “Open Access” before proceeding.
- IEEE DataPort offers resources and tutorials to help users understand and utilize the datasets. You can find them on the website.
By following these steps, you can explore and download a variety of free datasets available on IEEE DataPort for your research needs.
Note: All users may submit a standard dataset of up to 2TB free of charge. Submit an Open Access dataset to allow free access to all users, or create a data competition and manage access and submissions.
Hope, this article will help you to find useful datasets for your research.
