Applications are invited from eligible candidates for admission to PhD and M.S. (by Research) programmes under regular/part-time/external schemes of IIT Madras.
Half-Time Research Assistantship (HTRA) funded by MHRD as well as fellowships from other funding agencies like CSIR, UGC, DST, ICMR, AICTE etc. are available for those who have qualified for these schemes.
Shortlisted candidates will be called for “test and interview” or “interview” by the Selection Committees of the respective departments from time to time.
Candidates can apply for July 2020 admission from 1st March – 15th April 2020 for admission to M.S/PhD/Direct PhD programme.
The applications received from November 2019 to February 2020 will be also considered for July 2020 admission except applications which were already considered against Anytime admission mode.
The candidates who have applied under Anytime admission mode need not apply again if the concerned department to which you have applied has not considered the applications under Anytime admission mode. For confirmation, please contact the concerned department.
Eligibility for PhD at IIT madras
Candidates who have completed their U.G/P.G degree may apply now for July 2020 admission to M.S./Ph.D./Direct PhD programme.
Candidates who are in their final semester/year of their U.G/P.G degree may apply now for July 2020 admission to M.S./Ph.D./Direct PhD programme.
Please make sure to see the eligibility criteria in the admission brochure (SI. No. 4, 5 & 6 in Page No. 8 – 20) before applying.
Candidates applying under External category for research programme may confirm whether the current organization/industry/institution in which you are working is having R & D recognition from IIT Madras or else certified by DST / DSIR. Click here for more details.
Candidates applying under the Part-time category for research programme may confirm whether the current organization/industry/institution in which you are working is situated within commutable distance from IIT Madras.
For candidates applying under various categories of Research admission which requires sufficient work experience, the experience will be reckoned based on the last date for submission of online application.
The work experience acquired after completion of the qualifying degree (i.e. U.G/P.G degree as per eligibility criteria) will be only considered as valid.
