The Institute of Energy and Climate Research – Postdoc in HiL Methods

The Institute of Energy and Climate Research Energy Systems Engineering (IEK-10) focuses on hardware-in-the-loop(HiL) methods. As part of this new team, IEK aim at establishing a world-leading facility for the development and verification of decentralized solutions for the control of modern energy systems.

IEK are looking for a person that will lead this team. You will be responsible of the design, development and operation of the Hardware In the Loop infrastructure and of the scientific outcome of the associated group of researchers.

Responsibilities

  • Develop – together with Prof. Benigni – a plan for the development of the research team
  • Design, development and operation of a “hardware-in-the-loop” laboratory
  • Supervise research assistants (PhD), MS and BS students and software developers working in this area
  • Oversee the acquisition process of the needed laboratory equipment
  • Participate in the development of research proposals to be submitted to external agencies
  • Giving presentations at conferences and develop scientific publications
  • Publications in scientific journals
  • Helping with establishing cooperations/networks (e.g., RWTH, IEK, Helmholtz)

Requirements

  • Very well completed scientific university (Master and PhD) studies in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer or Computational Engineering Science
  • Extended publication record
  • Very good communication skills in English

Significant previous experience

  • Hardware-in-the-loop and real-time simulation
  • FPGA programming
  • Control methods development
  • Communication protocols
